We were lucky enough to be the very first podcast to have the talented Doug Michel on and he was a natural. It was no surprise to me when him and Sean Fagan teamed up to do the Ronin podcast, which is a trip, but let us get back to the comic at hand.
Doug sent us a bunch of MS1 for FREE to read before we had on the show and I'm talking real books not some PDF's. From the start I loved his cartoony style, the character interaction and his hand lettering. I got an immediate impression of him through the comic and it was backed up when we had him on The Womb Mates episode 10. Doug is a cool, laid back, is not afraid to speak his mind and can make you laugh none stop. All of this comes out in the pages of MS1.
It started as a comic for his 3 nephews but has now grown into something much more. It has inside jokes that only his friends know, cameos of said friends and with the kids all grown up and swearing, this book is literally off the chain. You can never tell what he's going to put in the book. From dimension jumping, time traveling and all out wackiness, this book has it all. I liked what he did for Annual #2 where he showed the 'in between' scenes throughout the previous books. Smart move. It was a way to show the cast of characters that made sense and was for the die hard fans and someone who just picked it up.
For those who backed the Kickstarter and this is your first taste of MS1, I am truly jealous of the fun you are about to experience. Doug and Joe Metro knocked it out of the park with their campaign. Class acts through and through. If you're about to do a KS project, look at what FMlb press did, do that and you will be sucessful. I guarantee it.
Finally, if you love comedy in your comic, pick this up.
